Freedom Of Information request lodged with Cumbria County Council

Cumbria County Council have determined to resettle 285 Syrian refugees, as announced on the ITV news on Friday 16th December.  This freedom of information request has been lodged with them today, 17th December 2016, to provide context for this decision.

Please provide all of the following under the Freedom of Information Act  – which we assume you have at your fingertips in order to have made this decision:

  1. all PRIOR consultation held with the people of the county and localities where the refugees are to be placed, and the outcome of this consultation – localities, times, dates and outcomes
  2. details of the vetting system applied to the refugees by the Home Office, and the secondary vetting system applied by Cumbria CC prior to settlement
  3. evidence that those who are to be re-settled are known exactly to be who they claim to be, for safety and security reasons, so as not to put any of our existing citizens in harms way
  4. the fully evidenced PRIOR authorised repatriation or exit plan within the council so that they can be returned to Syria once things are stable and safe again
  5. The immediate figure per head which you are being paid by the Government/Home Office or whomever to resettle the refugees, and
  6. the value of all ongoing payments being made by the Government/Home Office or whomever to support the refugees, and for how long these payments are being made
  7. the cost to the Cumbrian taxpayer over and above these payments for the refugee resettlement

AND

8)  All the following aggregate information on Cumbria County as a whole, which it is beholden on Cumbria County Council to have readily available before making such a decision:

  • the number of homeless sleeping rough on the streets
  • the number of homeless households in temporary accommodation
  • the number of children in those homeless households
  • the total number of people or households on the council housing waiting list
  • the total number of people or households on other social housing landlord waiting lists
  • the number of people using foodbanks in Cumbria county
  • the number of bus services which will be cut in the county over the next 12 months
  • all planned council service closures and cuts over the next 12 months – old people’s homes, day centres, outreach centres and other service or employment/staffing/post reductions and any other service cuts, cuts to charity support, home improvement grants, disability adaptations etc
  • all planned service cuts to fire and police services
  • all planned cuts to NHS services
