Anyone who thinks the NHS’ problem is ‘old people’ should read this:

Here’s an article which clearly outlines the chronic mis-management of the national health service and the problem of health tourism which isn’t being tackled.

The NHS was not set up to provide free healthcare to the world. It wasn’t set up to provide free healthcare to the residents of Europe/The EU. It was set up to provide free basic healthcare to the residents of the UK at a time well before the EU.

Anyone who believes the NHS’s problem is due to ‘old people’ hasn’t got to grips with the NHS’s problems with:

  • health tourism
  • mass immigration
  • chronic mis-management and waste
  • non-essential operations and services
  • stealth privatisation,
  • PFI costs to the taxpayer, and
  • Conservative government under-funding

When you add them together, this is what you get (thanks to ‘The Canary’ for this picture).

hospitalcorridor_opt-770x470It is my belief that Theresa May is quite happy for the management of the NHS to keep digging their own grave through ineptitude so it can be privatised and got off her books once and for all.  And with it any obligation she and the Tory party have to the UK people’s healthcare.  I bet she won’t abolish national insurance when she does.

Read this article which will whet your appetite.  There will be more to follow in a later post.

  • Unless you have had a mastectomy any boob operations should be paid by the reciprocate, also any operation unless it is life threatening should be paid by the patient. The NHS was paid in from the British born for our own emergency operations not for what people would like changed to make them happy..

  • Exactly what I have been saying for sometime. It’s also all the money being spent on medications when if the NHS ordered as one unit instead of many I’m certain we would get a much better deal, we would have amazing buying power. We must fight to keep our NHS but use it responsibly.

  • Diagnose people, don’t fob them off , you’ll more than half the hospital bed shortage & strain on ambulances taking the same patient back,as an emergency untreated, into hospital .

All the things in this article are ‘factual’! In fact it’s far worse than the author writes about. I worked 29 years in the NHS and it was fabulous, then they brought in these ‘ professional’ managers, quite intellectually robust in themselves but knew nothing about healthcare and how hospitals worked. Worse still, they replaced healthcare professionals with these people and it was chaos then onwards!
The accountants took over and whilst you need to contain budgets, these guys got paid so much and there were so many of them, the budgets were immediately overspent!!
The ‘Boards memebers’ alone cost half a million a year in 1998, this would equate to a million pounds today. Boards? We got along with them prior to this and budgets were +/- 1% then!
